KeyDefend User Manual.


I. Download

Note: Before you download KeyDefend, you must close all files and applications that are currently open on your system.

The total time for downloading and installing KeyDefend is approximately one minute.

Installer files

Downloading application

  • Open a browser and access the website.
  • On the main page, click the Download button.

    Note: For Personal, Premium, and Professional, you must click the corresponding Download button, and follow the next steps.

    The browser starts downloading the respective application at the default download location that you set in the browser.

II. Installation


  • Internet connection
  • Operating system: Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, or 8.1 (32-bit or 64-bit)


  • Go to the location where you downloaded the KeyDefend application
  • Double click the KeyDefend_v0.08x64.exe file.
    The system displays the Welcome page.

    Note:If you are installing KeyDefend application on Windows 7 or later, you must run the KeyDefend installer as an Administrator.

  • Click the Next button.
    The system displays the Choose Install Location screen.
  • In the Destination Folder area, click the Browse button to select the location where you want to install KeyDefend
    Note: You can use the default location for installing KeyDefend.
  • Click the Install button.
    The system starts installing KeyDefend.
  • (Optional) Click the Show details button to view the files that the installer is installing.
    The system displays the Completing KeyDefend Setup page after the installation is complete.
  • To create the shortcut to the KeyDefend application, keep the Create Desktop Shortcut check box selected.
  • Click the Finish button.
    The system finishes the installation and displays the KeyDefend application page to enter the product key.
  • In the Product Key field, enter the KeyDefend product key that you received through email from KeyDefend.
    Note: If you do not have the product key, you can still use the KeyDefend application for a personal use or as pro trial. The personal version is a free version and the pro trial version is a professional edition that you can use only for 7 days.
  • Click the Register button to start using the KeyDefend application.
    The system displays the page to restart the system after installing KeyDefend.
  • Click the Restart Now button to restart the system or click the Ignore button to restart the system later. The system adds the KeyDefend application icon in the system tray.

III. User interface of KeyDefend

The user interface of KeyDefend consists of the following sections:

  • Icon in the system tray
  • Overlay window
  • Options dialog box

When you type any text in a protected application, the KeyDefend immediately displays the overlay window on your screen. In the overlay window you can view the actual randomization of your keystrokes in real-time.

If you are not typing in the application, the overlay window automatically disappears after few seconds.

System tray icon

You can view the KeyDefend icon in the system tray at the bottom right corner of your system. The KeyDefend icon in the system tray changes the color to indicate the status of KeyDefend.

Note: If you are using Windows 7 or 8, at times your KeyDefend icon might be invisible in the system tray area.

  • Green when KeyDefend is ON.
  • Red when KeyDefend is OFF.

    Note: Click the KeyDefend icon in the system tray to turn KeyDefend ON or OFF.

Overlay window

The overlay window of KeyDefend appears when you start typing in the address bar of the browser window or any text field on a website that you access.

The overlay window also displays the randomized keystrokes in real-time when you type any text on a web page. This protection from KeyDefend helps you to ensure that the text that you type is really safe before sending to the server through internet.

  • The KeyDefend logo.
  • The Random Keystroked label.
  • The real-time display of the randomized keystroke.
  • The Options button to open the Options dialog box.
  • The Positions button to move the overlay window to different position on your system.

The Option dialog box provides you the options to configure KeyDefend. The Options dialog box displays different tabs for different type of configurations.

IV. Using KeyDefend

KeyDefend is the application where you do not have to perform any operations other than configuring the application and then starting that application. Once you start the KeyDefend application, rest all is taken care by KeyDefend.

The section consists of the following topics:

  • Viewing the status of KeyDefend
  • Enabling the protection
  • Opening the Options dialog box
  • Changing the display of KeyDefend interface
  • Exiting KeyDefend

Viewing the status of KeyDefend

  • System tray:
    • Hold the mouse pointer on the KeyDefend icon in the system tray.

      The tooltip displays the current status of KeyDefend.

  • Popup menu:
    • Right-click the KeyDefend icon.

      The popup menu displays the current status of KeyDefend

      • KeyDefend is On:
      • KeyDefend is Off:

Enabling the protection

TYou can enable the protection by turning KeyDefend ON and disable the protection by turning KeyDefend OFF. To enable the protection, you can either use the KeyDefend icon in the system tray or an option on the Options dialog box.

  • In the system tray , click the KeyDefend icon.
    • The KeyDefend icon in Red color indicates that the protection is disabled.
    • The KeyDefend icon in green color indicates that the protection is enabled.
  • In the Options dialog box.
  • On the General tab, select the Enable KeyDefend protection check box.
  • Click OK.

Opening the Options dialog box

You can option the Options dialog box in multiple ways.

  • In the overlay window:
    • Click the Options icon ( )
  • In the system tray:
    • Right-click the KeyDefend icon and select Options.
  • In Windows Programs menu
    • Click the Start button.
    • Click All Programs.
    • Click KeyDefend.
    • Click KeyDefend Options.

Changing the display of KeyDefend interface

You can change the way KeyDefend displays the interface. You can either display the interface as an overlay window or as a splash screen. The Options dialog box of KeyDefend provides the options to change the display of KeyDefend.

  • Open the Options dialog box.
  • Click the Display tab.
  • Display KeyDefend interface as splash screen:
    • Select the Show splash screen check box.
  • Display KeyDefend interface as overlay window:
    • In the Location area, select the position where you want to display the KeyDefend interface as overlay window.

Note: Always keep the KeyDefend icon visible in the system tray. This gives you the convenience and keeps you informed about of the status of KeyDefend.

Exiting KeyDefend

If you do not want to protect your typing, you can exit KeyDefend running on your system.

  • In the system tray, right-click the KeyDefend icon and select Exit.

V. Uninstallation

If you do not want to use KeyDefend, you can uninstall the application from your system. However, if you again want to install KeyDefend, you can follow the steps given in the Installation section.

Uninstalling from the Windows XP system

  • From the Windows main menu, click Start.
  • Click All Programs.
  • Click the KeyDefend folder.

    The folder displays the list of files for KeyDefend.

  • Click Uninstall KeyDefend.
  • The installer uninstalls all the files and folders of KeyDefend from your system.

Uninstalling from the Windows 7 or Windows 8 system

  • Move the mouse pointer to the bottom-right corner of your screen.
    The system displays the Windows side bar.
  • On the sidebar, click Search.
  • In the Search field, type KeyDefend.

    The system searches for the application and displays the search result for KeyDefend.

  • Click Uninstall KeyDefend.

    The installer starts uninstalling KeyDefend.
